How may Doherty Extension Increase Crime?

Statistics show that there is more crime in neighbohoods with multiple entry points as opposed to those with a single entry point. Currently, Heritage Oaks has a single entry point that goes out onto Minton Rd, not far from the West Melbourne police. A second entry point to all communities in Heritage Oaks will cause an increased opportunity for criminals to slip out the back road.

How can Doherty Extension Endanger our Children?

This project will turn Heritage Oaks Blvd. into a major throughway instead of a quiett neighborhood road for residents. Hundreds of cars each day will be speeding down Heritage Oaks Blvd. to avoid the Minton and 192 intersection. Hundreds of additional cars will bring extra opportunities for children to be at additional risk. Cars have been known to spin off the road and hit kids on sidewalks in other parts of Brevard County.

How many trees need to be cut down?

The exact number of trees to be removed is not known but it appears hundreds are in the projected path of Doherty Rd. There is not enough land currently cleared for a road so killing trees will be required. No studies have been made public on this topic but citizens can draw reasonable conclusions from the map provided on this home page

How can Doherty Extension Reduce Property Value?

People would rather live in a quiet, secluded neighborhood without a lot of through traffic. People pay less for properties in areas with load road noise, high crime, and safety issues.
